I don't even know if I've done anything in between the times I wrote the last update and this one. Let's try to tap the old memory reserve, shall we?
Well, I DID see Alex and Francis yesterday, which was super-fun, definitely one of the highlights of the day. Alex lent me Magnetic North (can't wait to read it! It's supposed to be a fantastic story arc) and I lent him Sailor Moon season 4 and gave him back his House of M.... I think we exchanged something else, but I don't remember. I only got to see them for about an hour and a half, but at least I saw them, and it was adequate time for conversation, I think. Francis and Alex are so cute together, I wish I could have a boyfriend who loves me like they love each other. No pressure, Alex ;P Oh, and sidenote, I don't know what was different about him that day, but Francis looked AMAZINGLY hot. I think it might have been because I saw his eyes in bright sunlight whereas we're usually in relatively low lighting. That guy has a nice colour in his eyes... anyways, enough daydreaming, haha.
Speaking of guys though, I'm pretty much back to square one, or "square suck" as I call it. It's not that the guys I've been talking to have been completely disgusting, but none of them really capture my interest, and it's especially hard to find someone who shares interests of mine, even if they're simple ones like video games and movies... I can't believe I'm having trouble finding a teenager who likes video games and movies. It's retarded.
Movie reviews! ...there are many.
King Kong - TERRIBLE! What a huge disappointment. It wasn't that the plot was terrible, but every scene could have cut 2 minutes of filler and still made perfect sense, and then the movie would have been like 2 hours instead of 3. I knew it would be bad though, Peter Jackson really started screwing up once he became an established director and had the money to do so. Jack Black actually didn't do too badly for a feature length drama film, although most of his role was comedic. The last line sucked.
Overall: 3/10, just because some scenes were interesting, but ALL were too long.
Memoirs of a Geisha - AMAZING! I don't know why it got such average reviews, I thought it was spectacular. An enthralling plot, beautiful cinematics (as is always the case with oriental films, I've found) and surprisingly good acting. Of course, as many complain, it would have made sense for the actors to speak the native tongue instead of all speaking english, especially when they throw in the occasional "konnichi wa" or what-have-you so it makes even LESS sense, lol. I was kind of hoping for the Americans to speak a different language with subtitles, just for a nice little surrealist joke, but sadly, they spoke english too. Although I heard many of the actresses were Chinese, so I suppose it would have been impossible for them to speak Japanese... but couldn't they have just cast Japanese actresses? Anyways... it was a little long, but not boring long, just you can tell the movie keeps going, haha.
Overall: 8.5/10, great but they speak english for no reason and it's a tad long.
Stay - Pretty good, for what seems like a very quiet production, despite all the big leads. Naomi Watts seems to be prostituting herself out lately and has been in 3 films being released over the course of the month, but whatever. It had Ryan Gosling, who (as usual) does a phenominal job, I love that guy, haha. One of the coolest parts is the cinematography and especially the editing, because all of the scenes sort of blend together. It's really cool. The plot was a little reminiscent of Donnie Darko, even to the point where it might seem to be borrowed from it, but in my opinion, it was a good enough movie to stand on it's own.
Overall: 7/10, it's not amazing but it was interesting and worth the watch, especially for Ryan Gosling.
I think those are all the new movies I watched recently, but I could be wrong. I'm super excited for Silent Hill's release, and I might be gathering a Silent Hill posse (much akin to my Rent posse of fame), if anyone's interested in "signing up". I think Francis said he'd be willing to see it with me (so I'd hope Alex would tag along), as did Cheryl, who I'm sure could gather some minions. Carolynn's obviously in, so that's already 6 people (assuming Cheryl dragged one person). Anyone else interested?
